My name is Sasha Zeiger, and I’m a philosopher.

I earned my MA in Philosophy & Social Policy from American University in 2018. Since then, I have continued practicing philosophy in different ways: teaching philosophy at the collegiate level, launching a philosophy-based art company, and publishing my debut philosophical fiction, The Tower of Theo.

Surface by Sasha (SBS) is more than a company to me. It’s a space, albeit mostly virtual, where philosophy emerges beyond the page into a thought-provoking visual. My intention with SBS is to promote public, philosophical discourse; otherwise, the discipline dies. I’m a firm believer that philosophy progresses and evolves outside academic captivity. Socrates didn’t have a PhD.

The name “Surface by Sasha” comes from my favorite author, Oscar Wilde. In the preface of The Picture of Dorian Grey, Wilde writes, “All art is at once surface and symbol. Those who go beneath the surface do so at their own peril.” If we treat each canvas or written page as a surface, we have an opportunity as the spectator to travel as deeply as the surface invites. I hope the surfaces I share with the world lend moments of self reflection for the spectator.
